Yellowstone is an amazing place. If you've never been, it's like driving through a giant zoo. There is diverse wildlife and landscapes around every bend.

My goal in Yellowstone was primarily to photograph the wildlife, especially bear, and after 4 days of trekking across the entire park I saw my fair share.

The first couple of days were filled with animal encounters such as Bison, Bison and more Bison. Given the time of year (late May) we saw many Bison calves and Canada Geese. Elk were everywhere, grazing in the giant grassy meadows and napping amongst the fallen trees.

On the third day we made the long drive from West Yellowstone to Lamar Valley which I had learned had an abundance of wildlife. We were not disappointed.

Just before the junction to Tower-Roosevelt we spotted two bear in a gully -- a black and cinnamon. For the next hour we tracked through the woods and up a fire road. I was careful to keep my distance as these bears were traveling together and I didn't want to risk getting in between them, or too close. As the snow started they disappeared into a dark ravine, but not before I was able to capture a shot of each of them. That night I saw on the news that a photographer hiking in the Hayden Valley area had been attacked by a sow grizzly bear -- a sobering reminder that these are truly "wild" animals and to always remember to keep your distance for your safety, and their well being.

On the fourth day, we left West Yellowstone and headed south to Jackson Hole to see the Tetons were we hoped to get a nice shot of the elusive moose. But, after a full day of hiking, driving and scouting none were to be found...on this trip. I will be back!
